Beach Men's Water Polo Picked To Finish Second In GCC Coaches' Poll

Long Beach, Calif. - LONG BEACH, Calif. ¬ – In advance of the 2017 water polo season, the Golden Coast Conference released its annual coaches’ preseason poll on Friday. The Beach was picked to finish second in the upcoming season, receiving two first place votes.

Long Beach State finished with 21 points, only one point behind front-runner Pacific that received three first place votes. The rest of the poll had UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Pepperdine and San Jose State rounding out the standings.

Men's Water Polo Even On First Day Of SoCal Tournament
No. 8 Long Beach State split their first two matches of the SoCal Tournament, winning the first against No. 14 Air Force 9-8 and dropping the second to No. 3 Stanford 12-7. The 49ers will play two more matches tomorrow at Pepperdine.

Last season the Beach finished third after conference play before beating UCSB in the third-place game in the GCC Tournament.

The team will once again get its season started when it travels to San Diego for the Triton Invitational. Play begins early Saturday morning when Long Beach State faces Air Force at 9:20 a.m.
