Beach Men's Water Polo Kicks Off Season At Triton Invitational

Long Beach, Calif. -

The Long Beach State Men's Water Polo team kicks off its season at UC San Diego in the Triton Invitational Saturday and Sunday.

After a third-place finish in the Golden Coast Conference in 2016, the Beach returns 9 of its top 10 scorers from 2016. Key returners for Long Beach State are Austin Stevenson and Duncan Lynde who were named to All-GCC Second Team. Lynde and Stevenson competed with Team USA at the 2017 World University Games in Taipei,Taiwan.

The Beach also returns its anchor in goal in junior Thomas Freeman who also spent the summer competing in Taipei with team Australia. Last year, the junior had 312 saves and finished the season with a 12-9 record.

Along with that trio, the Beach returns Austin Stewart, Keegan Wicken and Jacob Fujioka who combined for 71 goals for LBSU.

Head coach Gavin Arroyo also spent time overseas this summer as the coach of the USA Water Polo Men's Junior National Team at the FINA Junior World Championship in Belgrade, Serbia.

Long Beach State begins the season against Air Force Saturday at 9:20 a.m. and then plays UC Davis at 1:20 p.m. The Beach will conclude the Triton Invitational with two additional games on Sunday.
