Dan Matulis, Nolan McConnell To Represent Team USA On Senior National Team
Jan. 28, 2014
Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Dan Matulis and junior Nolan McConnell have both been chosen for the 14-man USA Men's Senior National Team roster that will begin international water polo competition this February at the Volvo Cup in Hungary.
The Volvo Cup is the first competition for Team USA in 2014, as Team USA begins a busy year, as the United State qualified for the FINA World Cup, which will be held in Kazakhstan this summer.
Matulis is one of four first-time selections on head coach Dejan Udovicic's roster. The senior center redshirted during the 2013 campaign for Long Beach State, but returns to action on the international stage, and will look to retain the form that saw him score a team-high 69 goals in 2012 while earning All-MPSF honors.
McConnell also earns a promotion to the USA senior national team. The junior attacker previously earned a trip to Hungary last summer, competing with the USA Junior National Team in the Junior World Cup last August.
McConnell scored 45 goals for Long Beach State during his 2013 sophomore campaign. McConnell was also a 2012 All-MPSF Honorable Mention selection.
Competition for Team USA begins on February 7, when the United States will open against Sebria. The United States will then play Germany on February 8, before closing out the tournament against the hosts, Hungary, on February 9.
