Beach Finish Eighth In MPSF Tournament To End 2015 Season

No. 8 Long Beach State fell to UC Santa Barbara 7-6 to close out the MPSF Tournament, ending the 2015 season 12-17 overall.

Senior Josh Tice led the Beach with two goals in the match, and Pavo Ljepopio ended his senior year with 273 saves, grabbing 11 in the match.

UCSB started the scoring in the match with two goals late in the first quarter, and the only goal in the second to go up 3-0 over the Beach in the first half.

LBSU got going in the second half, though, with sophomore Duncan Lynde scoring early in the third to put his team on the board with at the 7:20 mark. Sophomore Lovro Miocevic netted his first goal of the tournament with the assist from senior Dimitrios Lappas to cut the deficit to one.

The Gauchos came back with a pair of goals to go back up 5-2 with just under two minutes left in the third, but the Beach ended the third on a high note.

After drawing the 6-on-5 advantage, Lappas netted the power play goal with just two seconds left on the clock. LBSU trailed the Gauchos 5-3 going into the fourth.

UCSB scored two goals midway through the final quarter with Tice scoring a power play goal in between. The Beach still trailed 7-4 with 3:35 left in the quarter.

LBSU came back with back-to-back goals with Tice scoring his second and Patrick Goodenough getting his first of the tournament to cut the Gauchos’ lead to just one with 1:53 left in the quarter.

The Beach couldn’t find that last goal to go into overtime, ending the season with an eighth place finish in the 2015 MPSF Championship Tournament.


Josh Tice ended this season with 24 goals, and scored 29 total goals in his career at the Beach.

Dimitrios Lappas ended this season with 30 goals, and scored 114 career goals over his four years at the Beach.

Zacchary Kappos ended this season with 12 goals, and has a total of 175 career goals. With his 66 goals scored in his junior year, Kappos is ranked sixth All-Time at LBSU in goals scored in a single season.

Pavo Ljepopio ended this season with 273 saves, and has a total of 784 career saves at the Beach. Ljepopio made a huge impact on the program his first year here totaling 301 saves. That mark is first All-Time in saves made in a single season. His career at the Beach was a memorable one, getting Long Beach State in the MPSF Record Books in Career Saves, where Ljepopio ranks seventh overall and second All-Time in LBSU history.
