49ers Push No. 2 USC, Falling 10-8

Los Angeles, Calif. - Zacchary Kappos scored three goals to pace the 49ers as No. 8 Long Beach State fell just two goals short of a major upset Sunday on the road at No. 2 USC. Goaltender Pavo Ljepopio also made 11 saves for Long Beach State.
USC (23-3, 5-2 MPSF) struck first, scoring the first two goals and threatening to keep Long Beach State (19-11, 1-6 MPSF)off of the board in the first quarter, but a late penalty was converted by Kappos, pulling The Beach within one goal after a strong defensive effort.
Kappos second score, coming with 5:36 to play in the second quarter, pulled the 49ers even with USC, and while the 49ers were unable to take the lead, an equalizer by Kappos pulled Long Beach State even with USC at 3-3. Connor Virjee snuck a goal in just before the end of the half to give USC a 4-3 lead going into the half.
In the third quarter, USC increased their lead, outscoring the 49ers 3-1, and while the 49ers made a late charge, the closest they came was the final score at 10-8 on a Carter Taylor effort, his second goal of the final period.
Long Beach State finishes the regular season at Noon on Saturday, November 23 at No. 1 Pacific. The 49ers will then return to Stockton, Calif. compete in the MPSF Tournament in the start of the postseason the following week.
