LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 10 49ers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and held on to defeat No. 9 Loyola Marymount 13-7 Thursday at home to wrap up its non-conference schedule. The 49ers take the season series 2-1 with the win.

True freshman Nolan McConnell led LBSU (18-3) with a season-high five goals while Devin Mefford chipped in three goals.

The 49ers' defense held the Lions (11-8) scoreless until Matt Stipanovich shot one past Balint Meszaros at 7:17 in the second period.

After exchanging a couple goals, LMU got as close as two goals before LBSU put the game out of reach scoring three-straight goals in a span of a 1:40 in the third.

Long Beach State's defense took over in the fourth holding the Lions scoreless in the final period to pick up the win.

Meszaros recorded eight saves in the game.

The 49ers wrap up their two-game home stand against No. 1 USC Friday October 19th for their conference opener at 7 p.m.
