Rascon scores game winner with 10 seconds to play allowing Long Beach State to pick up two wins

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Nick Rascon scored the game-winning goal with 10 seconds to play to give Long Beach State a 9-8 win over Cal Baptist on Saturday night at the Hadleman Pool. The 49ers also picked up an 18-3 win over La Verne earlier in the day to finish the Gary Troyer Tournament with a 4-0 record.

Senior Spencer White, who scored four goals on Sunday, finished the four-game tournament with a team-high nine goals.

Game 1: No. 10 Long Beach State 18, La Verne 3

The 49ers outscored the Leopards 11-1 over the final three periods to claim an 18-3 win Saturday afternoon at the La Verne Aquatic Center in La Verne, Calif.

Michail Drakapoulos, Dan Matulis, Brian Schiefer, Rascon, and White each scored two goals for the 49ers (16-3), while eight other players added one goal.

Sinan Karatay recorded five saves in the first half, while Robert Poynton collected four saves in the second half.

Game 2: No. 10 Long Beach State 9, No. 19 Cal Baptist 8

Rascon scored the game winner with 10 seconds to play to help the 49ers finish the tournament unbeaten.

Zacchary Kappos, Carter Taylor, and White led the LBSU with two goals each.

Balint Meszaros finished with 13 saves.
