49ers win two games at Gary Troyer Tournament

Senior Spencer White led the 49ers with five goals to wrap up the first day of the Gary Troyer Tournament.

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The 49ers took home a pair of wins Friday defeating Harvard 12-5 in the morning and Fresno Pacific 23-4 to wrap up day one of the Gary Troyer Tournament.

Senior Spencer White led Long Beach State (14-3) to the two wins with a team-high five goals.

Game 1: No. 10 Long Beach State 12, Harvard 5

The 49ers outscored the Crimson 7-1 in the second half to break open a close game en route to a 12-5 win at the La Verne Aquatic Center in La Verne, Calif.

Harvard tied the game at five 31 seconds into the second half, but the 49ers responded with seven unanswered goals holding the Crimson (12-7) scoreless over the final 15:29 of the game.

White and junior Nick Rascon led eight 49ers who scored with three goals each. Milos Vrzic chipped in two goals.

Balint Meszaros finished the game with 12 saves.

Game 2: No. 10 Long Beach State 23, Fresno Pacific 4

Long Beach State went on an 11-0 run over a 13 minutes and 56 second stretch to roll past Fresno Pacific 23-4. Nine players scored for the 49ers during that stretch.

Dan Matulis, Devin Mefford, and Nathan McConnell led LBSU with three goals apiece. Joey Fabian, Brian Schiefer, Carter Taylor, Nolan McConnell and White each chipped in with two goals.

The 23 goals tied for third all-time in team goals at Long Beach State.

Sinan Karatay recorded 10 saves for the 49ers in the first three quarters, while Derek Anderson collected five in the fourth quarter.

The 49ers return to action Saturday at 12:40 p.m. against La Verne at the La Verne Aquatic Center in La Verne, Calif. before heading to the Hadleman Pool in Claremont, Calif. to face Cal Baptist at 7:20 p.m.
