Palo Alto, Calif. - Long Beach State defeated Pomona-Pitzer 16-5 Saturday to wrap up the first day of the NorCal Tournament after falling to No. 8 Pepperdine 10-8. Spencer White led the 49ers with six goals in the two games. Balint Meszaros recorded 22 saves.

Game 1: #8 Pepperdine, #9 Long Beach State 8

The 49ers (7-1) fell short against the Waves 10-8 in the first game of the NorCal Tournament. White led the 49ers with three goals while Nolan McConnell and Zacchary Kappos chipped in two goals each.

The 49ers rallied with three minutes left in the game behind White's two goals and Kappos' goal but it wasn't enough against the Waves (4-1).

Balint Meszaros finished with 11 saves.

Game 2: #9 Long Beach State 16, Pomona Pitzer 5

White scored six goals, one goal shy of his season-high, with Dan Matulis and Dimitrios Lappas adding two goals each. Eight different players scored for the 49ers in the win.

Meszaros recorded 11 saves against the Sagehens (0-8).

With the win, the 49ers will play either Santa Clara or UC Davis at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday.
