49ers Split Two Games At Inland Empire Classic

La Verne, Calif. - Long Beach State's men's water polo team dropped their first game of the day against Concordia by a slim margin, ultimately losing 10-9, but recovered to win the team's second game of the day 12-5 over Chapman in the team's largest win of the season.
Long Beach State and Concordia were evenly matched throughout the day, with each team scoring two goals in the first period, but the 49ers pulled ahead to take a 5-4 lead at halftime. However, Concordia pulled even with the 49ers in the third period, and then outscored Long Beach State 3-2 in the fourth to score a stunning 10-9 upset.
In the team's afternoon game, the 49ers rolled out to a 4-2 lead after the first period, and then held Chapman scoreless in the second quarter while taking a 7-2 lead into halftime. In the second half, Long Beach State continued to hold the edge, and finished off the day with a 12-5 win.
Long Beach State (5-1) returns to action with two more games Sunday in the Inland Empire Classic, facing Whittier at 10:15 a.m. before closing the weekend by playing the hosts, La Verne, at 12:45 p.m.
