Beach Opens Triton Invitational With Win

San Diego, Calif. -- Long Beach State opened the Triton Invitational with a 17-5 win over Air Force Saturday morning.

The Beach scored early and often to take a 7-3 lead after the first quarter. Austin Stewart and Chandler Kaltenbach each scored two goals in the frame while Austin Stevenson, Nemanja Bakic and Duncan Lynde scored one.

In the second quarter the Beach's defense kept Air Force scoreless while Jacob Fujioka, Keegan Wicken and Lee Griffins scored to give the team a 10-3 lead.

Air Force outscored the Beach 2-1 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 11-5. Bakic scored the lone goal.

In the fourth quarter, Bakic scored twice to bring his total to four. Zachary Minott also scored twice, while Kaltenbach and Max Cusator scored once.

The Beach will face UC Davis at 1:20 p.m. to conclude the first day of tournament play.
