The Long Beach State men's water polo team was chosen to finish fifth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation as picked by the MPSF coaches in the upcoming 2014 season. Long Beach State acquired 32 points, as 2012 All-Americans Dan Matulis and Nick Rascon are back from redshirt seasons, joining four of the squad's top five scorers from 2013.
Senior Dan Matulis and junior Nolan McConnell have both been chosen for the 14-man USA Men's Senior National Team roster that will begin international water polo competition this February at the Volvo Cup in Hungary.
Sophomores Zacchary Kappos and Pavo Ljepopio each earned Honorable Mention All-MPSF honors as announced by the conference office today. The awards are voted on by the nine MPSF coaches and represent the best in the conference.
Fifth-seeded California topped Long Beach State 17-8 in the third game of the MPSF Tournament for both teams, pulling away from the 49ers in the second half in the final game of the year for The Beach. Milos Vrzic and Patrick Goodenough each scored twice for Long Beach State.
