LBSU men's volleyball wins two on first day of USC Fall Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's volleyball team defeated USC and UCLA on the first day of the USC Fall Tournament Friday evening at the Galen Center Pavilion.
Matches were the best of three sets with the first two played to 25 points and the third to 15 points. If a match was decided after two sets, the teams could elect to play the third set.
The 49ers swept defending MPSF regular season champion USC, 25-22, 25-21, 15-11 in their first match of the night. Senior Brad Hemmerling led the way with seven kills, while senior Jim Baughman and junior Dalton Ammerman each added five. Baughman also finished with three service aces and sophomore Jeff Ornee totaled a team-best three blocks.
LBSU also came back to top UCLA, 23-25, 27-25, 15-9. Ammerman paced the 49ers with 11 points on eight kills and three aces. Ornee chipped in nine points (7 kills, 2 blocks).
Long Beach State closes out the tournament with a busy day on Saturday, Oct. 15, as it is set to take on Stanford (8 a.m.), Cal Baptist (1 p.m.), Lewis (2:45 p.m.) and UCLA (6 p.m.).
