U.S. Men's National Team begins FIVB World League play

LONG BEACH - The United States Men's National Volleyball Team kicked off FIVB World League pool play last weekend in Florence, Italy.

The U.S. men, who are currently in fourth place in Pool C, went 1-2 as they lost to France (17-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-17), defeated Korea (24-26, 27-25, 21-25, 29-27, 18-16) and lost to Italy (25-16, 25-20, 25-16). Three former 49ers are on the U.S. World League roster, including David Lee, Paul Lotman and David McKienzie.

The squad will have some time off before its next round of pool play, June 15-17, in Lyon, France. They will also travel to Gwangju, Korea (June 22-24) before closing out pool play on home soil in Dallas, Texas (June 29-July 1).

The U.S. Men's National Team recently punched its ticket to the 2012 Olympic Games in London by winning the NORCECA Men's Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament which was held at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach.

Alan Knipe is the head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team.
