Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball Earns No. 2 Seed in NCAA Tournament

LONG BEACH, Calif. – A day after winning the 2017 MPSF Championship with a four-set win over Hawaii, top-ranked Long Beach State earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The announcement was made Sunday morning by the NCAA.

The Beach, which own a record of 27-3, received a bye into the NCAA Semifinals and will take on the winner of the BYU-Barton College match on May 4 at 6 p.m. ET in Columbus, Ohio at St. John’s Arena.

Ohio State garnered the No. 1 seed and will take on the winner of the Hawaii-Penn State contest on May 4 at 8 p.m. ET.

Long Beach State played its way into the tournament after posting a historic season which saw the Beach win their first-ever MPSF title in any sport. Additionally, LBSU posted a 16-0 record when playing inside the Walter Pyramid to collect the most home wins in a single-season in program history. The Beach have also tallied a program-record 20 three-set sweeps in a total of 30 matches.

LBSU is led by offensively by the sophomore duo of TJ DeFalco and Kyle Ensing who average 3.99 and 3.35 kills per set, respectively. Setter Josh Tuaniga paces the Beach offense with 11.13 assists per set, which leads the nation and helped Long Beach State post a .371 attack percentage which is also tops in the country.

Defensively, senior libero Andrew Sato controls the backrow with 2.46 digs per set, while Bryce Yould and Amir Lugo-Rodriguez patrol the net with 0.94 and 1.30 blocks per set, respectively.



Long Beach State will makes its fourth-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Alan Knipe and ninth overall.
