LBSU Men's Volleyball Sweeps Mount Olive at Penn State Tournament
The top-ranked Long Beach State men's volleyball team cruised to its fifth sweep in its last six outings as it topped Mount Olive, 25-13, 25-22, 25-21, Friday at Penn State's Rec Hall.

The No. 1 Long Beach State men’s volleyball team welcomes Mount Olive to the Walter Pyramid for a mid-week, non-conference match up. The Beach and the Trojans will go head-to-head on Wednesday, March 7. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

Long Beach State is ranked No. 1 in the country after opening the 2018 season with a perfect 16-0 record which ties the 1992 squad for the best start in program history.

Mount Olive is not ranked, but brings a 10-5 overall record to the Pyramid.

This season, Long Beach State’s schedule features eight of the 15 nationally ranked teams.

About The Beach
• Long Beach State boasts a perfect 16-0 record which ties the 1992 squad for the best start in program history.
• The Beach remain the only unbeaten team in Division I-II.
• LBSU’s 16-match winning streak is the second-best in program history coming in behind the 1991-92 squad’s 22-match winning streak which spanned two seasons.
• The Beach have won 23 straight matches inside the Walter Pyramid, which is the second-longest home winning streak in program history.
• As a team, Long Beach State is leading the nation in two statistical categories. The Beach lead the league in hitting percentage (.407) and opponent hitting percentage (.173).
• Junior outside hitter TJ DeFalco became just the 21st player in Long Beach State men’s volleyball program history to reach the 1,000 kill mark after recording eight kills against Stanford on Jan. 26. DeFalco has now accumulated 1108 career kills to rank 18th all time at LBSU.
• Junior setter Josh Tuaniga has now racked up 3,024 career assists and is ranked seventh all time at Long Beach State.
• Junior opposite Kyle Ensing has led the Beach in kills in nine matches thus far. Ensing currently leads the team with 185 kills to average 3.63 per set which ranks him seventh in the Big West and 15th in the country.
• In addition to his solid offensive effort, DeFalco leads the Beach with 104 digs (2.04 per set) and 25 service aces (0.49 per set). His digs per set average is fourth in the conference, while his aces per set average is second in the league. With 25 aces on the year, DeFalco brings his career total to 98 which is good for sixth all-time at LBSU.

Scouting The Trojans
Mount Olive comes into the match against Long Beach State with a 10-5 overall record. The Trojans, which beling to the Conference Carolinas, are 7-2 in league matches.

The Trojans are led by Robert Poole who has tallied 185 kills on the year for an average of 3.70 per set. Poole is also second on the squad with 1.70 digs per set.

Jeff Yasalonis is the team’s setter with 519 assists for a 9.61 assists per set average. He also leads the Trojans in digs per set with 1.81.

At the net, Luke Visgitis is the team leaders with 33 total blocks (three solo, 30 block assists) for an average of 0.73 per set.

Series vs. Mount Olive
Long Beach State and Mount Olive will meet for just the second time in program history. The two teams first squared off two years ago in University Park, Pa., on the campus of Penn State. In that match, the Beach collected a three-set sweep of the Trojans.
