Simon Anderson Garners Big West Freshman Player of the Week
The freshman middle blocker picks up the honors for the fifth time this season
LONG BEACH – Long Beach State freshman middle blocker Simon Anderson was named Big West Conference Freshman Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. He earned the honors after helping the top-ranked Beach to a pair of 3-0 sweeps over CSUN last week.
Anderson helped Long Beach State improve to 16-0 on the year as the Beach tied the best start in program history. With Anderson in the middle, Long Beach State opened Big West Conference action with a pair of victories over the Matadors as the Beach won in straight sets at CSUN on Friday, then came home and swept the Matadors inside the Pyramid two days later.
The Middlefart, Denmark native finished the week with five kills, three blocks, one dig and one service ace. Anderson hit .400 on Sunday as he knocked down two kills on five swings without committing an attack error. He also registered one solo block and a pair of block assists.
Anderson and the Beach will be back in action on Wednesday, March 7 when they host Mount Olive at 7 p.m.
