Feb. 5, 2013
LONG BEACH - Junior Dalton Ammerman (Parker, Colo./Chaparral HS) was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week after leading Long Beach State to a pair of road wins over ranked teams last week.
Ammerman was also tabbed the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Molten Player of the Week on Monday.
The 6-foot-4 outside hitter was a key factor in the then seventh-ranked 49ers' 3-2 victory over No. 1 BYU on Feb. 1. Ammerman picked apart the Cougars with a career-high 21 kills while hitting at an impressive .459 clip. He also added four digs, two blocks and one ace.
Earlier in the week, Ammerman registered his second double-double of the year with 11 kills and a career-best 12 digs in a 3-1 triumph at No. 14 Cal Baptist (Jan. 29).
Over the two matches, Ammerman averaged 3.56 kills, 1.78 digs and 4.17 points per set with a .313 attack percentage.
On the season, Ammerman has seven double-figure kill matches and has notched at least 10 kills in each of the last six contests.
This is the first national honor for Ammerman and it marks the 24th time a 49er has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week award with the most recent coming from John La Rusch on Feb. 21, 2011.
No. 3 Long Beach State is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 6, when it plays host to fifth-ranked Pepperdine in a 7 p.m. match at the Walter Pyramid.
