Feb. 4, 2013
LONG BEACH - Junior outside hitter Dalton Ammerman (Parker, Colo./Chaparral HS) has been selected as the MPSF Molten Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday evening.
This is Ammerman's first career player-of-the-week honor and second for Long Beach State this season.
Ammerman led LBSU to a pair of important road wins last week, highlighted by a five-set triumph at No. 1 BYU. He registered a career-high 21 kills and was nearly unstoppable, hitting .459 (21-3-37) against the Cougars. Ammerman set the tone in the first set, powering the 49ers, who trailed 15-10, to a 25-23 comeback victory with eight kills. He also fittingly notched his 21st kill on match point. Ammerman added four digs, two blocks and Long Beach State's only ace at BYU.
Earlier in the week, Ammerman established his second double-double of the year with 11 kills and a career-best 12 digs in a 3-1 win at No. 14 Cal Baptist.
On the week, Ammerman averaged 3.56 kills, 1.78 digs and 4.17 points per set.
No. 3 Long Beach State (8-3, 6-2 MPSF) returns to the friendly confines of the Walter Pyramid on Wednesday, Feb. 6, when it entertains fifth-ranked Pepperdine at 7 p.m.
