LBSU Edges Former 49ers in Alumni Match
Oct. 21, 2013
LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State men's volleyball program had a nice turnout for its alumni match this past Saturday (Oct. 19). The former 49ers looked strong and held set point in both games, but ultimately fell to the 2013-14 squad, 30-28 and 26-24.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair. The alumni took set point at 24-23 on a kill from Jeff Wootton, but a double block by Ian Satterfield and Taylor Gregory evened it up at 24-24. There would be four more tie scores before a Connor Olbright kill gave the current 49ers the 30-28 victory.
It was another tightly played contest in set two before the alumni pulled ahead, 24-22, following a Nate Hagstrom kill. LBSU responded, however, scoring the next four points for the 26-24 win.
The two sides went on to play a friendly third set.
Long Beach State continues the fall season with its Black & Gold match this Saturday, Oct. 26.
