LBSU Goes Undefeated in Pool B, Advances to UCSB Invitational Title Match

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Long Beach State men's volleyball team finished first in Pool B as it went 4-0 in round-robin play on the first day of the UCSB Asics Invitational at The Thunderdome.
The 49ers opened the tournament with a 25-23, 21-25, 15-7 win over UC San Diego. LBSU then closed out the morning session with a 25-19, 25-19 victory against No. 14 Cal State Northridge.
After a mid-day break, Long Beach State returned to action with a pair of 2-0 wins in the afternoon session. The 49ers topped IPFW, 31-29, 25-19, before defeating No. 2 UCLA, 25-19, 25-18.
None of Friday's results count toward overall records. The best-of-three set pool play matches were exhibitions and were used to determine the seeds for Saturday's schedule.
Long Beach State will play its first official match of the season on Saturday, Jan. 4, when it takes on Harvard in the UCSB Asics Invitational championship match at approximately 8 p.m. in Rob Gym. The Crimson finished first in Pool A with a 3-1 record.
