Chris Seiffert returns to Long Beach State in his first year as an assistant coach with the 49ers.

"I am extremely excited to have Chris Seiffert back with LBSU men's volleyball as an assistant coach," Read said. "In the past decade, Chris has played at the top of the volleyball world, first with Team USA and then with various professional teams in Europe. He brings an incredible amount of experience and passion to our program, which our players are definitely going to benefit from."

Seiffert was a four-year starting setter at LBSU from 1997-2000. He was a three-time AVCA All-American and earned NCAA All-Tournament honors in 1999 when he led the 49ers to the championship match.

Seiffert ranks second in school history in assist average (17.08 assists/set) and is third in all-time assists (6,099). He also set a 49er single-match record with 115 assists against San Diego State.

Following his career at The Beach, Seiffert joined the U.S. National Team from 2001-05. He competed in a number of events, including the NORCECA Championships, Pan American Games, World League and World Championships. He was also an alternate for the 2004 Olympic Team.

In 2001, Seiffert was a member of the U.S. Team that defeated France to win the gold medal at the World University Games.

Seiffert also competed professionally overseas for 10 years, playing with various teams in Austria, Greece, Turkey and Romania.

He is currently assisting in the training of the U.S. Team that will compete in the World University Games in Shenzhen, China, from Aug. 11-23. The squad features current 49ers Jim Baughman and Ryan Meehan.

Seiffert earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Long Beach State in 2000.
