FIRST TEE
The Long Beach State men's golf team makes the short drive up to Simi Valley to take part in the Bill Cullum Invitational at par-72, 6,849-yard Wood Ranch Golf Club. The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Monday (Oct. 16) with first and second round action beginning with a 7:45 a.m. (PT) shotgun start, followed by the final 18 holes concluding on Tuesday (Oct. 17) with an 8 a.m. (PT) shotgun start.

BILL CULLUM FIELD
The Beach will be among an 12-team field at the Bill Cullum Invitational as the Beach will compete with the tournament host CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, Northern Colorado, Redlands, Seattle, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State and Weber State.

BEACH STARTING FIVE
Joe Fryer (No. 1), Patrick Pockels (No. 2), Nick Cantlay (No. 3), Connor Nelson (No. 4) and Andres Gonzalez (No. 5) will represent the Beach at this year's Bill Cullum Invitational.

LAST TIME OUT
LBSU is coming off from a 10th place finish at the Ram Masters Invitational back on Sept. 19, at Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. The 49ers posted a three-round score of 33-over 873. Junior Joe Fryer was the top player for LBSU for the second straight tournament, tying for eighth with a 1-under 209.

FRYER NAMED BIG WEST GOLFER OF THE MONTH
Junior Joe Fryer was named Big West Conference Golfer of the Month for September. Fryer shot three consecutive rounds in the 60’s at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate, carding a 9-under-par 204 on the par-71, 7,308-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Club Course. Fryer tied for third among 68 competitors and his final round score of 67 included zero bogeys and four birdies. Fryer, who also fired rounds of 68 and 69, helped the Beach finish in third place in the 11-team field. At the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo, Fryer tied for eighth place with a 54-hole total of 2-under 209. He sandwiched rounds of 69 and 68 around a 72 on the par-70, 7,218-yard Fort Collins Country Club track.The Beach placed 10th among 19 teams at the tournament. Fryer finished the month with a stroke average of 68.83.

BEACH TAKES THIRD IN WASHINGTON
The Beach finished in third-place among 11 teams at the season-opening Itani Quality Homes Collegiate at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. LBSU recorded a three-round score of 21-under-par 831 after posting rounds of 280, 274 and 277. Redshirt junior Joe Fryer was the top player for the Beach, tying for third among 68 players with a 9-under 204, following rounds of 68, 69 and 67.

WALKER CUP RETURNS TO VCC

WILSON NAMED HEAD COACH AT THE BEACH
Michael Wilson was named the new head men's golf coach this past summer, replacing Mickey Yokoi who retired after five years at the Beach. Wilson became the 11th head men's golf coach at the Beach, after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Washington. While at Washington, Wilson helped the Huskies improve their finish at the Pac-12 Championships in each of his three seasons, most recently tying for third place in 2016-17 as Wilson managed the team while head coach Alan Murray was home for the birth of his child. In each of his three seasons, Wilson helped Washington reach the NCAA Regionals, and the Huskies made an NCAA Championship appearance in 2015, finishing tied for 15th while Cheng-Tsung Pan finished as the individual runner-up.

BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO INDUSTRY HILLS
The 2018 Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship will take place at Industry Hills Golf Club in the City of Industry. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is slated to begin on Sunday, Apr. 29. The winning team receives the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament that begins on May 15-17 at six 54-hole regional sites.

COMING ATTRACTIONS
The Beach returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 26, taking part in the three-day Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at The Reserve at Spanos Park Golf Club in Stockton.
