Goydos, Mallinger complete first day at U.S. Open

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Former Long Beach State golfers Paul Goydos and John Mallinger completed the first day of the 110th U.S. Open at the Pebble Beach Golf Links shooting a 76 and 77 respectively. Goydos, a four-year letterwinner at LBSU from 1983-86, recorded five bogeys for the round for a 5-over par to tie for 90th place. Mallinger, who played for the 49ers from 1998-2001, tied for 105th after shooting a 6-over on Thursday morning. Mallinger recorded three birdies for the round, while committing nine bogeys. Shaun Michaeel (USA), Paul Casey (England) and Brendon De Jonge (Zimbabwe) share the lead with a 2-under 69. For second round action, Goydos (group seven) is scheduled for a 7:33 a.m. start, while Mallinger (group 27) will begin day at 12:30 p.m. Both players will tee off from the first hole.
