IRVINE, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's golf team won two of the Big West Conference's major individual postseason awards and placed three players on the first team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Xander Schauffele was named Big West Freshman of the Year, while Mickey Yokoi garnered Big West Coach of the Year and seniors Kevin Lim and Kevin Roy joined Schauffele on the All-Big West First Team.

LBSU earned the honors after capturing a record five tournament titles and two individual medalists. The 49ers won events at Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton, Oregon, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine. The victories earned the 40th-ranked 49ers an at-large bid to the program's third-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship. LBSU will compete in the Athens, Ga. Regional, May 17-19.

Schauffele competed in all 10 tournaments for the 49ers, recording the second lowest stroke average of 72.40. The San Diego native captured his first career tournament title at the OGIO-UCSB Invitational with a 54-hole score of 8-under-par 208. In his first tournament as a 49er, Schauffele posted a career-low 66 in the final round of The Prestige at PGA WEST. He has recorded five top-10 and three top-20 finishes this season. Schauffele is the first 49er to receive Freshman of the Year honors since 2009.

Lim, the Big West Freshman of the Year in 2009, captured his first career tournament victory at the Anteater Invitational, winning by one-stroke over fellow teammate Roy with a 1-under 212. Lim fired a career-low 66 in the final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore., placing second at 3-under. The native from Seoul, Korea, collected six top-10's and two top-20 finishes enroute to a pair of Big West Golfer of the Month awards for March and April.

Roy, played in all 10 tournaments for LBSU, leading the team with a stroke average of 72.33. The native from Syracuse, N.Y. posted six top-10 finishes and one top-20, earning him Big West Golfer of the Month for February. Roy carded a career-low 67 in the second round of the Anteater Invitational, tying for second place at even-par. Roy received honorable mention in 2011.

Yokoi, in his first season with the 49ers, is only the third coach in program history to receive coach of the year honors after longtime coaches Del Walker (1982, 1986, 1994) and Bob Livingstone (2000, 2006) earned the award. Yokoi, led LBSU to their highest ranking in program history, when the 49ers were ranked as high as 39th in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings.
