FIRST TEE

Long Beach State travels to San Jacinto for the Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship, Apr. 28-30, at the par-72, 7,137 yard The Country Club at Soboba Springs. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is set to begin on Sunday, Apr. 28 with opening round play with the 49ers teeing off at 8:35 a.m. from the first tee. LBSU will be paired with UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.

BIG WEST FIELD
All 10 schools will be represented at this year's Big West Championship. Seniors Philip Chian and Raymond Ho, sophomore JJ Holen and freshmen Daniel Chian and Kevin Lee will represent the 49ers as they'll go up against Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Hawai'i, Pacific, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara.

2012 BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP
LBSU will be looking to capture their first Big West Conference Championship since 2004 as the 49ers finished just one shot behind two-time defending Big West champion UC Davis. LBSU made a valiant comeback after starting the final round in fourth-place, seven strokes behind the Aggies at the La Quinta Resort Mountain Course. The 49ers recorded a team-best 282 on the last day as former 49er Kevin Roy and senior Philip Chian tied for sixth at 2-under 214.

ALOHA HAWAI'I
The 2012-13 season will see the addition of an old friend as the University of Hawai'i returns to the Big West Conference in all sports except football. The Rainbow Wahine were members of the Big West in women sports from 1984-96. With the return of Hawai'i back to the Big West, the field for this year's men's golf championship will be raised to 10 teams.

LAST OUTING
LBSU finished in seventh-place in the 11-team Winchester Classic in Meadow Vista, Calif. as the 49ers posted a 54-hole score of 28-over par 892. Senior Philip Chian was the top player for the 49ers, tying for 17th place at 6-over 222. Sophomore JJ Holen and freshman Kevin Lee tied for 23rd (+8). Cal State Fullerton captured the team title as the Titans (+4) recorded the tournament's lowest round with a 286 to hold off second place host UC Davis (+9) by five shots and nine strokes over Oklahoma Christian (+13) in third. UC Santa Barbara (+16) placed fourth and Sacramento State (+22) finished in fifth.

LBSU DEFENDS ANTEATER INVITATIONAL TITLE 
The 49ers are coming off from their third tournament win more than three weeks ago as LBSU defended their title at the 33rd Anteater Invitational. The 49ers (+27) won by three shots over second place Cal State Fullerton (+30) and four strokes over tournament host UC Irvine (+31) in third. Freshman Daniel Chian (+1) led the way for the 49ers, finishing in second just one shot out of first.

NINERS PLACES 11TH IN ARIZONA
LBSU is coming off an 11th place finish at the 16-team Don Puckette National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. The 49ers tallied a 54-hole score of 21-over 885 at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club. Freshman Kevin Leepaced the 49ers as he tied for 29th with a 2-under 218.

LBSU WINS DEL WALKER INTERCOLLEGIAT
The 49ers overcame an eight-shot deficit in the final round of the 17th Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic to win the team title at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach. LBSU recorded a tournament low 274 to finish with a 54-hole score of 2-under par 838. The 49ers were the only team in the tournament to finish under par. The tournament host held a three-stroke lead over second-place Pacific as the Tigers finished at 1-over. Senior Raymond Ho paced the 49ers firing a final round 69 to tie for fifth. This was Ho's second consecutive top-10 finish this season. The Cerritos native carded his second 69 of the tournament to finish with a 54-hole score at even-210.

49ERS WIN FOLINO INVITATIONAL FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR 
LBSU overcame a six-shot deficit going into the final round from tournament leader UC Irvine at the Folino Invitational at Industry Hills Golf Club. The 49ers finished with a 54-hole total of 8-over par 872 to hold off the second-place Anteaters by four strokes. Freshman Daniel Chian led the way for LBSU, tying for fourth shooting, finishing with an even-216. Senior Raymond Ho and freshman Kevin Lee also finished in the top-10, tying for sixth and 10th respectively.

NINERS CLOSES OUT FALL SEASON AT BILL CULLUM 
Freshman Daniel Chian led the way for LBSU tying for 12th place at the Bill Cullum Invitational at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley. Chian fired rounds of 74, 70 and 72 to finish with an even-216. The 49ers finished in 12th out of 20 teams recording a 54-hole score of 33-over 897.

HO TIES FOR SECOND AT VCU SHOOTOUT 
Senior Raymond Horecorded a 2-under par 214 to tie for second place at the VCU Shootout in Manakin-Sabot, Va. Ho led the way for LBSU recording rounds of 71, 71 and 72 at the Hermitage Country Club to finish just four strokes behind first. LBSU placed third in the 12-team field at 24-over 888.

LBSU STARTS SEASON OFF IN IOWA 
LBSU kicked off the fall season at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa. The 49ers tied for 11th place with a three-day score of 39-over 903. Senior Philip Chian was the top player for LBSU as he tied for 37th at 10-over 226.

COMING ATTRACTIONS
Should the 49ers win the Big West Conference Championship and automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament, regional action will take place May 16-18, at six sites with the NCAA Finals (May 28-Jun. 2) being held at the Capital City Club - Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.
