Men's Golf Head To Santa Barbara To Compete In the UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate

April 13, 2018

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State Men's Golf travels to Northern California to compete in the UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate. The Beach will look to build upon the success of their previous tournament in which they finished tied for fourth-place. The tournament will take place at scenic Sandpiper Golf Club on the coast just north of Santa Barbara.

The tournament will begin on Monday, April 16, with two rounds (36 holes) played with the final round of 18 holes played on Tuesday, April 17.

Long Beach State enters this tournament following the Wyoming Cowboy Classic where the Beach shot an 854, 10-under par and tied for fourth place. The last time LBSU finished ten or more strokes under par was on Sept. 11, 2017 at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate where the Beach finished -21 for the tournament. This finish also marked the fourth consecutive tournament LBSU placed within the top five.

Joe Fryer led the way for LBSU in the tournament shooting a 209 (-7) over three rounds. After a slow start in the tournament, Fryer improved upon each round score and finished the tournament tied for third place. This was another strong performance following Fryer's recognition as Big West Golfer of the Month for the month of Match.

Teammates Nick Cantlay and Hunter Reed ended the tournament tied for 11th place after shooting 212, four-under par for the tournament. Cantlay began the final day of play in a three-way tie for first-place.

There are six teams competing in the UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate. These are the teams that will make up the field: Hosts UC Santa Barbara, Weber State, California Baptist, UC Riverside, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State. There are eight individuals competing in the tournament as well.

For Monday, April 16, competition will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, while the final round starts at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, with each team starting at the first hole. Live scoring for the tournament can be found at golfstat.com.
