The Long Beach State men's golf team shot a 26-over par 306 in the opening round of the 63rd Annual Western Intercollegiate to finish tied for 14th place with Oregon State on Sunday afternoon at the Pasatiempo Golf Club.

Fresno State leads the field of 18 teams as the Bulldogs recorded a two-under 278 to hold a five stroke lead over second place Colorado and 12-strokes over third place Oregon and Michigan State.

Juniors Michael Drake and Steve Gibson and freshman Kevin Lim finished tied for 50th as all three players recorded a six-over 76. Drake carded two birdies for the day and five bogey's while Gibson carded four bogies. Lim recorded two birdies on the front nine while committing five bogey's in the opening round. All three players recorded a double-bogey on the back nine.

Freshman Kevin Roy shot an eight-over 78 to finish tied for 69th, while sophomore Ricky Montanez tied for 84th with a 12-over 82.

Pat Grady of Colorado and Bhavik Patel of Fresno State share the lead with a two-under 68.
Second round play continues on Monday at 9 a.m.
