The Long Beach State men's golf team kicks off the spring season at the Folino Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will take place at the Industry Hills Golf Club in the City of Industry. Opening round action begins on Sunday, Feb. 17, followed by second round play on Monday, Feb. 18 and the final 18 holes concluding on Tuesday, Feb. 19. All three rounds will be played on the par-72, 7,211 yard Dwight D. Eisenhower Course.
LBSU will be among a nine-team field competing in this year's Folino Invitational. Seniors Philip Chian and Raymond Ho, sophomore JJ Holen and freshman Daniel Chian and Kevin Lee will represent the 49ers as they go up against tournament host Cal State Fullerton, Sacramento State, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, Loyola Marymount, Oakland University, UC Irvine and Utah State.
All three rounds of the Folino Invitational will be available on Golfstat.com.
LAST YEAR IN INDUSTRY
LBSU is the defending Folino Invitational champions as the 49ers won by two shots over second place Pepperdine and three strokes over tournament host Cal State Fullerton. The 49ers recorded a 54-hole score of 15-over 879 after scoring rounds of 297, 286 and 296. Former 49er Kevin Lim paced LBSU as he placed third with an even-216, while current senior Raymond Ho tied for ninth at 5-over.
NINERS CLOSES OUT FALL SEASON AT BILL CULLUM
Freshman Daniel Chian led the way for LBSU tying for 12th place at the Bill Cullum Invitational at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley. Chian fired rounds of 74, 70 and 72 to finish with an even-216. The 49ers finished in 12th out of 20 teams recording a 54-hole score of 33-over 897.
HO TIES FOR SECOND AT VCU SHOOTOUT
Senior Raymond Ho recorded a 2-under par 214 to tie for second place at the VCU Shootout in Manakin-Sabot, Va. Ho led the way for LBSU recording rounds of 71, 71 and 72 at the Hermitage Country Club to finish just four strokes behind first. LBSU placed third in the 12-team field at 24-over 888.
LBSU STARTS SEASON OFF IN IOWA
LBSU kicked off the fall season at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa. The 49ers tied for 11th place with a three-day score of 39-over 903. Senior Philip Chian was the top player for LBSU as he tied for 37th at 10-over 226.
