Men's Golf Opens Spring Season At The Waves Challenge

Jan. 27, 2018

Long Beach, Calif. - Beach Men's Golf is back in action early next week as the team heads up the coast to participate in the Waves Challenge hosted by Pepperdine. The tournament begins next Monday, and will be held at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif.

After nearly three months off of competition, Long Beach State is back in action this Monday as head coach Michael Wilson and assistant coach Philip Chian take their charges in the first of nine spring tournaments guaranteed for the team.

Wilson's squad had good balance in the fall, as three different players were the top finisher for the Beach in a trio of juniors -- Joe Fryer, Andres Gonzalez, and Patrick Pockels.

The Waves Challenge will consist of two rounds Monday with a final round Tuesday. Along with Long Beach State and the hosts Pepperdine, the field will consist of Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Sacramento State, Seattle, South Dakota, Texas Rio Grande Valley, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara.

Featuring a number of Big West teams, the tournament will serve as a good early-season measuring stick in advance of the conference championships, held April 29-May 1.

Live scoring for the tournament will be available through Golfstat, with links available at
