LBSU Tied For Second After Two Rounds At Bill Cullum Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - After two rounds of play at the Bill Cullum Invitational, the Long Beach State men's golf team is tied for second-place at Wood Ranch Golf Club.

LBSU posted rounds of 283 and 284 for a total of 9-under-par 567.  The 49ers are tied with Utah State as both teams remain just two shots behind first-place UC Santa Barbara at 11-under.

Junior Patrick Pockels was the top player for the Beach, tying for third at 5-under 139.  Pockels carded an opening round 72 to tie for 23rd.  The Huntington Beach, Calif. native came back in the second round with a five-shot improvement, turning in a 67 that was highlighted by seven birdies and just two bogeys to move up in the standings by 20 spots.

Junior Joe Fryer is tied for seventh at 3-under after carding rounds of 69 and 72, followed by fellow classmate Andres Gonzalez three shots behind, tied for 22nd at even-144 followed by rounds of 70 and 74.

Senior Nick Cantlay finished the day tied for 32nd at 2-over, after shooting rounds of 72 and 74, followed by freshman Connor Nelson tied for 58th at 7-over with rounds of 80 and 71.

Derek Castillo of Cal State Fullerton sits on top of the leaderboard of 91 players at 7-under.

Final round play concludes on Tuesday, with an 8 a.m. (PT) shotgun start.  Live play will be available on Golfstat.com.
