Chian tied for 12th place after 18 holes at Golfweek Conference Challenge
Sept. 16, 2012 BURLINGTON, Iowa - Senior Philip Chian shot a 1-over-par 73 in the opening round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge to tie for 12th place at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. Chian was the top player for Long Beach State, leading the 49ers to ninth with an 18-hole score of 15-over 303. Missouri leads the field of 15 teams at 2-under as the Tigers holds a three shot lead over second-place Ball State (+1) and six shots over tournament host Iowa (+4) in third. On the front nine, Chian was 2-over recording two birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey. The Covina native made the turn onto the back collecting two birdies and one bogey for a 1-under. Sophomore JJ Holen tied for 33rd with a 76, ending his round with a strong finish that was highlighted with three consecutive birdies on the last three holes. Senior Raymond Ho and freshman Kevin Lee are tied for 40th with a 77. Freshman Daniel Chian is tied for 53rd at 6-over. Second round action continues on Monday, with the 49ers teeing off at 7 a.m. (PST) from hole No. 1 and will be paired with Louisiana-Lafayette and Central Arkansas.
