Chian completes NCAA Championship at Pacific Palisades

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Long Beach State junior Philip Chian completed the final round of the 54-hole stroke play tournament of the NCAA Championship shooting a 9-over-par 80 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.
Chian completed the three-day tournament at 18-over 231, tying for 130th place.
Chian began his final round Thursday afternoon from the first tee, where he would record his first of two birdies for the day. As he made his way through the front-nine on the par-71, 7,292-yard course at Riviera, Chian recorded four bogeys and one double-bogey for a 4-over. His other birdie came at the par-3 6th.
On the back side, Chian double-bogeyed the 10th and bogeyed the 11th. He would go onto collect two more bogeys, including one to end the final round. Chian carded a total of seven pars on Thursday.
Illinois' Thomas Pieters claimed individual medalist honors with a 5-under 208, winning by three strokes over TCU's Julien Brun and Florida's Tyler McCumber tied for second at 2-under.
Alabama, UCLA, Texas, California, San Diego State, Washington and Oregon advances to the three-day match play tournament to determine the national champion. Kent State and Florida State will play a tie-breaker on Thursday morning to determine which team will claim the eighth and final spot to continue on at Riviera.
