ATHENS, Ga. - Philip Chian shot an even-par 71 to tie for 26th place after the opening round of the NCAA Athens Regional at the University of Georgia Golf Course, leading the Long Beach State men's golf team to finish the day in 12th.

Seventh-seed LBSU recorded a team score of 13-over 297 to remain nine strokes behind No. 5-seed Iowa (+4) in 11th and 12 shots behind No. 3-seed New Mexico (+1) tied for ninth with Texas-Arlington.

Top-seed Alabama (-15) leads the field of 13 teams by two strokes over second-seed North Florida (-13) in second and seven shots over sixth-seed East Carolina (-8) in third. Regional host and fourth-seed Georgia is currently in fourth at 4-under.

Chian began the round paring the first two holes and recorded his first of three bogey's for the round at the par-3 210-yard 3rd hole. The junior from Covina would go onto to be bogey-free the next 11 holes that included two birdies. Chian would bogey on the par-4 15th and 18th holes and birdie the par-5 17th.

Senior Kevin Lim and freshman Xander Schauffele are tied for 51st at 3-over 74. Lim's scorecard was highlighted by four birdies, three of them coming consecutively beginning at the par-4 5th, five bogeys and one double-bogey. Schauffele collected two birdies and 12 pars, while recording three bogeys and one double-bogey.

Senior Kevin Roy is tied for 68th at 7-over 78, while junior Raymond Ho is tied for 73rd at 10-over.

North Florida's Kevin Aylwin sits on top of the leader board of 75 players with a 6-under 65, holding a one-shot lead over two players tied for second.

Second round action continues on Friday with LBSU teeing off at 5:50 a.m. (PST) from the 10th tee with Iowa and Texas Arlington.
