LBSU Moves Up To Tie For Third Place At Winchester Classic

Freshman Kevin Lee is tied for ninth place after two rounds of the Winchester Classic.

MEADOW VISTA, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's golf team tied the day's lowest round with a 289 in Saturday's second round action to tie for third place at the 2nd Annual Winchester Classic at Winchester Golf Course.

LBSU improved by eight shots from Friday's opening round to record a 36-hole score of 10-over 586. The 49ers moved up the standings from sixth to tie with Oklahoma Christian for third.

Tournament co-host UC Davis (+2) took over the top spot to lead the field of 11 teams by four strokes over second place Cal State Fullerton (+6) and eight shots over LBSU.

Freshman Kevin Lee carded a 71 to improve by three shots to tie for ninth with senior Philip Chian as he recorded a 73. Both players are at 1-over.

Sophomore JJ Holen (+3) moved up one spot to tie for 16th after shooting a 73, while freshman Daniel Chian had the biggest improvement of the day by seven shots, carding a 72 to move up from 43rd to tie for 30th.

Senior Raymond Ho posted an 82 to tie for 45th.

Sam Johnston of Oklahoma Christian leads the field of 57 players by two strokes with a 5-under.

Final round play concludes on Sunday with the 49ers teeing off at 10:30 a.m. with UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton from the first tee.
