49ers Win 33rd Anteater Invitational For Second Consecutive Year

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - Long Beach State shot a 298 in Tuesday's final round of the 33rd Anteater Invitational at the El Niguel Country Club to capture the team title for the second year in a row.
LBSU was tied for the lead with cross-town rival Cal State Fullerton going into the final round. The 49ers won the title by three shots as the Titans posted a final round score of 301. Tournament host UC Irvine finished in third, four strokes behind the 49ers. LBSU completed the two-day tournament with a 54-hole score of 27-over par 891.
This marked the third tournament win this year for LBSU as the 49ers won the Folino Invitational for the second consecutive at Industry Hills Golf Club and won the 17th Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach.
The 49ers won last year's Anteater Invitational at Shady Canyon Country Club in Irvine by eight shots over second place St. John's en route to the program's record fifth tournament win.
Freshman Daniel Chian finished in second, just one stroke behind individual medalist Connor Campbell of Loyola Marymount. Chian carded a 74 to finish with a 1-over 217, while Campbell fired a 71 to move up the standings from third to first.
Chian collected three birdies and two bogeys to finish the front-nine at 1-under. The native from Covina ran into trouble on the backside, recording three consecutive bogeys on Nos. 11, 12 and 13. Chian finished out the round with five consecutive pars and no birdies.
Freshman Kevin Lee turned in his best round of the tournament, shooting a 2-under 70 to finish one shot behind at 11-over.
Sophomore JJ Holen shot an 84 to tie for 42nd, while fellow classmate Kevin Techakanokboon, playing as an individual, placed 67th.
LBSU returns to action Apr. 19-21, taking part in the Winchester Classic hosted by UC Davis and Nevada at Winchester Country Club in Meadow Vista, Calif.
