Niners Tied For First Place at 33rd Anteater Invitational

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - After two rounds of play at the 33rd Anteater Invitational at the El Niguel Country Club, the Long Beach State men's golf team is tied for first place with a 36-hole score of 17-over par 593.
LBSU is currently tied with Cal State Fullerton after recording the tournament's lowest score of the day with a 288 in the opening round and returned with a 305 in the afternoon round.
Both the 49ers and Titans holds a four shot lead over tournament host UC Irvine (+21) in third and eight strokes over Sacramento State (+25) in fourth.
Freshman Daniel Chian was the top player for the 49ers as he sits on top of the leaderboard with a 1-under 143. Chian holds a one shot lead over Travis Russell (E) of UC Irvine and two strokes over two players tied for third at 1-over.
The Covina native posted the tournament's lowest score of the day with an opening round 69 that was highlighted by five birdies and two bogeys. In second round play, Chian carded a 74 that included just birdies while making two bogeys and one double-bogey.
Senior Philip Chian sits three shots behind his younger brother with a 2-over 146, tying for fifth after posting rounds of 72 and 74.
