49ers in third place at Braveheart Classic after first two rounds

BEAUMONT, Calif. - After two rounds of play at the Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside, the Long Beach State men's golf team sits in third place as the 49ers shot a 13-over par 589. LBSU carded an opening round score of 302 and came back to improve by 15 strokes in the second round to finish with a 287 and remain just eight shots behind second place Cal State Northridge (589) and 12 shots behind first place Arizona (577). Freshman Benjamin Lein led the way for The Beach as he recorded a 74 and 71 in the first two rounds to finish with a one-over 145 at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont to finish in eighth. Senior Robbie Berton tied for ninth with a 146 (75-71), followed by freshman Raymond Ho tied for 15th with a 148 (73-75) and sophomore Kevin Roy tied for 30th with a 152 (80-72). Senior Michael Drake tied for 39th with a 10-over 154 (81-73) and sophomore Austin Love playing as an individual competitor, tied for 50th with a 156 (80-76). Casey Piper of Cal State Northridge sits on top of the leaderboard with a five-under 139 (72-67) and holds a two-stroke lead over second place Jake Sarnoff of Loyola Marymount (141). Final round action concludes on Tuesday.
