49ers tied for second place after two rounds at 17th Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic

LONG BEACH - After two rounds of play at the 17th Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic, tournament host Long Beach State is tied for second-place after day one at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach.
LBSU is tied for second with Loyola Marymount with a 36-hole score of 4-over-par 564 as both teams are eight shots behind tournament leader Pacific at 4-under.
The 49ers completed the opening round with a 284, tying for fourth with Cal State Fullerton. LBSU came back with a strong second round 280 to move up in the nine-team standings by two spots.
Senior Raymond Ho and sophomore JJ Holen were the top players for LBSU as both players are tied for 10th with a one-over 141. Ho tied a season low with a 69 in the first round that was highlighted by three birdies and two bogeys. In the second round, Ho collected two bogeys while making 15 consecutive pars for a 72. For Holen, the scores were reversed as the Castaic native carded a 72 in the opening round and came back firing a career-low 69 that was highlighted by three birdies and one eagle at the par-5, 544-yard 18th hole.
Freshman Kevin Lee finished just one stroke behind with a 2-over after shooting a 71 in both rounds to tie for 13th.
Senior Philip Chian is tied for 15th at 3-over, while younger brother Daniel is tied for 26th at 7-over.
Sophomore Kevin Techakanokboon and freshman Carter Pool, playing as individuals for LBSU, tied for 43rd at 13-over.
Pacific's Alex Edfort sits on top of the leaderboard with a 5-under after shooting rounds of 66 and 69 to hold a one shot lead over Tyler Torano of Loyola Marymount.
Final round play concludes on Tuesday with the 49ers teeing off at 8:40 a.m. from the first tee. LBSU will be paired with Pacific and Loyola Marymount. Live play can be followed on Golfstat.com.
