Long Beach State has announced that all-region golfer Zack Vinal has been named the assistant golf coach for the men's and women's golf programs.
"After competing against Zack for the past four years, I am excited to have him on our team", said first year men's golf coach Bill Poutre. "He is a great leader, a fearless competitor and has a tireless work ethic. He will be a great role model for our student-athletes. Zack's burning desire to win combined with his experience as a top notch player will have a great impact on our golf programs."
During his four-year career at Binghamton University (Vestal, N.Y.), Vinal was a two-time Division-I PING All-Region selection and was selected as a Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar for his accomplishments during his senior year. He holds the career scoring average in the schools Division-I era as well as the single season scoring record at Binghamton University. In addition, he had 22 top-10 tournament finishes during his career. Zack was recognized by the state of New York as the 2008 SUNY Chancellor's Award. The annual award is given to one athlete from the entire New York state university system for outstanding performance in sport and academics.
Vinal received his bachelor's degree in human development from Binghamton University and plans to pursue a master's degree in sports marketing at LBSU. He is a native of Syracuse, N.Y. and was named the 2007 Syracuse District Amateur Player of the Year. In 2006, he was a semifinalist in the New York State Amateur Championship.
