Bill Poutre enters his second year as the head men's golf coach at Long Beach State, where he has elevated the program to new heights, producing Big West Conference Co-Freshman of the Year Kevin Lim, in his first year at The Beach.

On May 2, 2008, LBSU Director of Athletics Vic Cegles announced that Poutre had been selected the new men's golf coach for the 49ers. Poutre spent four years (2004-08) as the Head Men's Golf Coach at the University of Hartford. Following a national search, Poutre was selected to replace Bob Livingstone, who retired after serving 14 years as the 49ers head coach.

Poutre has turned Hartford into one of the strongest programs on the east coast. During his four year reign at Hartford, the team's national ranking improved by nearly 120 spots. The Hawks won three regular season tournaments, two conference championships and advanced to the 2007 NCAA Division-I East Regionals. The team's stroke average improved by 16-shots over the period, setting a school record in his final season. Poutre's teams also excelled in the classroom earning a 3.30 cummulative grade point average over the four year period.

Poutre is known as a top notch recruiter. At Hartford, five student athletes were ranked No. 1 in their respective states prior to joining the Hawks. His first recruiting class at LBSU is stellar, led by Orange County Player of the Year Kevin Lim, the 2007 NorCal Champion Austin Love and Kevin Roy from Syracuse, NY. Poutre refers to Roy as the best unknown talent in the northeast.

Poutre is looking forward to elevating the status of the Del Walker Invitational. At Hartford, he was able to establish, coordinate and host the schools first home event in 18 years. Within three years, the Hartford Hawks Invitational developed into the premier college event in the northeast attracting a very strong national field.

Over the past several years, Poutre has taken the time to travel the country as the lead educator for the NCAA sponsored "Playbook For Life" program. The program was developed by The Hartford to teach NCAA student-athletes the basics of personal finance. Poutre has spoken at more than 20 campuses across the country.

From 2000-2004, Poutre was the Chief Executive Officer for Prime Financial, Inc after serving as the Executive Vice President of Business Development for the previous four years. In 2003, he was honored as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Poutre is a 1988 graduate from the University of Hartford with a degree in Business Administration. He was a letterwinner on the Hawks men's golf team. Poutre is a Sloan Fellow from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management graduate program. He was elected as a Class "A" member of the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) in 1996. He is an active member of the College Golf Coaches Association of America and is a voting member of the NCAA Division 1 Golf Coaches Poll.

Poutre resides in Newport Coast with his wife Christine and his two children Samantha and Cameron.
