Long Beach, Calif. - Becoming eligible to play for Long Beach State mere hours before Thursday's game with USC, Tyler Lamb responded with two huge games for the 49ers, earning Big West Player of the Week honors for the week of Dec. 23.
Lamb, a Division I transfer from UCLA, joined the 49ers for game action for the first time in 2013-14 against USC at home on Thursday. His presence, with 20 points, four rebouds, and three steals, helped Long Beach State earn its first home win over a Pac-12 opponent in over ten years, while snapping the 49ers' losing streak in the process.
The Ontario, Calif. native continued to impress on Saturday against Montana State-Billings, scoring a career-high 29 points, including 24 in the second half, helping erase a six-point deficit at halftime and give Long Beach State an 82-75 victory.
On the week, Lamb averaged 24.5 points and shot 50 percent (16-of-32) from the field while leading the 49ers to two straight wins.
Lamb becomes the first 49er to earn Big West Player of the Week honors since Mike Caffey won the award on January 14th of 2012-13.
