Monson adds James Ennis from Ventura College to recruiting class
Nov. 17, 2010
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State men's basketball coach Dan Monson announced today the signing of James Ennis from Ventura College to a National Letter of Intent. The junior college transfer joins a pair of freshmen that Monson signed on the first day of the early recruiting period last week.
"We are very excited to sign James to a letter of intent today to complete our early signing class," Monson said. "Our staff feels he is the best player in the Southern California junior college system and has the ability to be the most versatile player in our program. He can play either guard spot along with the small forward position. James is a tremendous athlete with great size and length along with a very high level skill package. He will also help address our need for perimeter shooting. "
Ennis was named the Western State Conference Player of the Week yesterday after averaging 22.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.7 steals in the We Play Hard Tip-Off Tournament. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound guard/forward converted on 24-of-39 shots (61.5 percent), 3-of-6 3-pointers and 16-of-19 free throws (84.2 percent) in the three-game tournament. In the opener against Los Angeles Valley, he finished with 26 points, eight boards and seven assists. Ennis ranks second in the WSC in scoring, fourth in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage and assists, and 11th in free throw percentage. As a freshman at Oxnard College, Ennis averaged 19.0 points, the third most in the state by a freshman, and 7.7 rebounds per game. He also won the Western State Conference and Southern California Regional championships in the high jump clearing 6-11.
Ennis joins freshmen Michael Caffey (Centennial HS/Corona, Calif.) and Shaquille Hunter (Villa Park HS/Villa Park, Calif.) as members of the 2010-11 Long Beach State recruiting class.
