Gabe Levin And Temidayo Yussuf Selected As Preseason All-Big West

Oct. 26, 2017

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State’s front court already has the eyes of the conference on them, as Gabe Levin and Temidayo Yussuf were both selected to the Big West Media Preseason All-Conference Team.

Both players have previously earned second-team All-Big West honors, with Yussuf grabbing the honors in 2016-17 after Levin garnered selection in his last full season, 2015-16.

Yussuf had a tremendous conference season one year ago, averaging 13.6 point and 5.7 rebounds per game in Big West play while leading the league in field goal percentage at 57.8 percent. Levin had a dominant start to the season one year ago, including back-to-back double-doubles against North Carolina and Louisville, but missed the second half of the season due to injury after averaging 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in his 16 games played.

The two were joined on the preseason all-conference team selected by media covering the Big West Conference by Tavrion Dawson of CSUN, Chima Moneke of UC Davis, Jackson Rowe of Cal State Fullerton, and Gabe Vincent of UC Santa Barbara.

The Beach was picked to finish fourth in the upcoming season in what looks to be a wide-open race. Defending regular season champs UC Irvine were tabbed to repeat with 14 first place votes, while Big West Tournament champions UC Davis were picked to finish second with seven first place votes. Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and Hawai’i filled in the next three spots with a close vote tally between them, each receiving at least one first place vote as well. UC Santa Barbara made a sixth team with a first place vote, picked to finish sixth, while CSUN, UC Riverside and Cal Poly rounded out the preseason order.

Long Beach State will have a pair of tuneups next week before the official start of the season on Friday, November 10. First, LBSU will welcome CSU Bakersfield to the Walter Pyramid for a charity exhibition benefiting the Community Foundation of Sonoma County on Monday, October 30, at 8 p.m.

Then on Saturday, November 4, Men’s Basketball will once more highlight Homecoming weekend with a 4 p.m. contest against Cal State Dominguez Hills, also in the Walter Pyramid.
