Long Beach, Calif. - Five non-conference home games along with Homecoming and the Big West schedule feature prominently as Long Beach State Men's Basketball has announced their 2017-18 schedule.
Highlighting the non-conference schedule are a pair of back-to-back home games against California schools, as Long Beach State will host Fresno State on December 2 before taking on Pac-12 opponent Stanford on December 3.
The season will begin with Homecoming against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, November 4 as the Toros will come to the Walter Pyramid for an exhibition in what has become a thrilling annual event for the campus. The regular season will then begin with a road trip to San Francisco on Friday, November 10.
"Since we're integrating so many new players, it was important to us to create a schedule that would help improve our chemistry and allow for growth as a team while continuing to give us a challenge and provide national exposure for both the university and the program," said head coach Dan Monson. "I think this schedule provides a better balance than last year's schedule in that regard, and places us in a middle ground where we can accomplish both goals."
Long Beach State is one of eight teams that has been selected to participate in the Advocare Invitational, which will be held from November 23 through 26 in Orlando, Fla. The Beach will play at West Virginia on November 20 as a non-bracketed game, and then begin tournament play on Thanksgiving against a field that also includes Oregon State, Missouri, St. John's, Nebraska, Marist, and Central Florida.
The Beach will play two other traditional power programs on the road next season with trips to Arizona and Michigan State, while also facing Oregon State, Southern Utah, Pepperdine and Colorado State away from Long Beach State.
Other non-conference home games include a December 16 return game against Eastern Michigan, as well as a pair of Division II opponents in San Francisco State and Texas A&M International.
Big West action begins on January 4, when Long Beach State hosts Hawai'i. Other home games of note throughout league play include a stretch of four straight home games beginning with the Black and Blue Rivalry against UC Irvine on January 31, and the regular season finale against UC Riverside on Saturday, March 3.
