Four Beach Basketball Players Named All-Big West
Junior Justin Bibbins named second-team All-Big West for the second consecutive season.
Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State Men’s Basketball had four players recognized for their efforts this season by being named All-Big West by the conference Monday. Justin Bibbins and Temidayo Yussuf were both second-team selections, while Evan Payne and Roschon Prince earned Honorable Mention.
Junior point guard Justin Bibbins earned second-team honors for the second straight season. Over conference play, Bibbins led the league in assists and free throw percentage, averaging 5.3 assists per game while shooting 89% from the free throw line. On the year, Bibbins was second on the team in scoring averaging 12.6 points per game for the Beach, and also lead the team in steals and was second 3-point percentage on the year.
He was joined by the second team by Temidayo Yussuf. The sophomore forward led the conference in field goal percentage at .578 in league play, and averaged 13.6 points per game in Big West action. Really coming on in the back half of the season, Yussuf scored over 20 points three times in league play, and finished the year ranking in the league’s Top 12 in both scoring and rebounding in conference play.
Junior Roschon Prince earned honorable mention. His nine double-doubles on the season were second in the Big West, and his seven in conference play were the best in the league. Ranking second in the conference in rebounding in Big West play, Prince averaged 7.0 rebounds per game and was third on the team in scoring on the year at 9.6. points per game.
Rounding out the honorees was a newcomer for Long Beach State in Evan Payne. Payne led Long Beach State in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game and leading the team in scoring 14 times. His 55 3-pointers made lead the team, and his 3.9 rebounds per game also ranked third on the team.
The four honorees matched the most for the Beach since the 2012-13 campaign that also saw four players earn All-Conference honors.
Long Beach State opens up postseason play in the quarterfinals of the Big West Tournament on Thursday, March 9 against Hawai’i. The teams will play in the fourth game of the day, scheduled to tip off at 8:30 p.m. with live television coverage on Fox Sports Prime Ticket.
