BEACH STILL ALIVE FOR REGULAR SEASON BIG WEST TITLE: Long Beach State travels to Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara with a chance to claim the Big West Conference regular season title. The Beach can win the regular season title outright with a pair of wins coupled with losses by Cal State Northridge at UC Davis and at Pacific. The 49ers can also claim the top seed in next week's Big West Conference Tournament if they tie Cal State Northridge for the regular season title and Pacific finishes third in the standings, or if LBSU, Cal State Northridge and Pacific all finish in a tie for the league title. With two games remaining, Long Beach State can enter the BWC tournament as the first, second, third or fourth seed depending on what happens during the final weekend of conference play. UNFAMILIAR FOES: This weekend's matchups between LBSU and Cal Poly and UCSB is a rematch of the opening weekend of league play on Jan. 2 and January 4. When LBSU and Cal Poly square off on Thursday, there will have been 59 days between the two games. In the first meeting, Greg Plater led three 49ers in double-figures as LBSU won despite shooting 39.3 percent from the floor. The wait has been even longer between the two LBSU-UCSB games, 63 days between the league opener and league finale for both teams. The Beach picked up a 12-point win in the first meeting behind Casper Ware's career-high 21 points as LBSU shot a season-best 57.8 percent from the field. Click on attached .pdf for game notes.
