Long Beach State has set a goal for zero waste Thursday for the 49ers' game with Hawai'i.
Feb. 26, 2014
Long Beach, Calif. - At Thursday night's home men's basketball game at the Walter Pyramid, fans will experience several ways that Athletics and the University are utilizing to limit energy and waste usage, as well as focus on new methods of renewable energy.
In collaboration with Athletics, several University departments have supported the planning and promotion of this event to better educate the LBSU faithful about how our campus and its athletic events are best promoting environmental welfare.
The energy saving initiatives will begin early in the morning on Thursday as several banks of lights inside of the Walter Pyramid will be dimmed or turned off during shootarounds and operational set up in the arena.
As a fan, you can help, get educated, and participate in any of the following ways:
- GOAL - ZERO WASTE
The goal for this game is to be zero waste. All event-related waste will either be recycled or composted, so fans should pay attention to the receptacles and/ or ask an usher for direction. In order to further support this, ushers will pass through the stands with trash bags to collect trash for proper disposal.
- Get a FREE Game Program
Help us save paper by using the QR Code distributed at the doors on game day, to receive a free game program on your cellular or mobile device.
Educate yourself on the initiatives of the University during the game by viewing the facts and figures on the video screen during pre-game and halftime.
- Park Close to the Pyramid
Come to the game in an accessible form of transportation such as a carpool, rideshare, motorcycle, or an electric/hybrid vehicle and gain access to the closest parking at the Walter Pyramid, Lot 13.
- Sustainable Spirit Shop
The concourse spirit shop will have sustainable items for purchase, including sweatshirts made from recycled materials.
49er Shops Concessions will be adding several initiatives to go along with their daily sustainable activity, such as utensils and cups that are compostable.
- E-Waste = Free Ticket
Donate and recycle any used electronics at our e-waste container outside of the Pyramid and get a free game ticket for the regular season basketball finale on March 8.
Show us how you conserve by posting your comments on Long Beach State's social mediums with the hashtag #WeConserveLB and select fans will win prizes announced during the game.
- Bike Valet
Ride your bicycle to the game and take full advantage of our bike valet service in front of the Pyramid. Fans riding a bike to the game will receive a free game ticket.
- Ride Share Program
