Raleigh, N.C. - David Samuels posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, headlining a strong day inside for the 49ers, but Long Beach State ultimately came up short on the road against N.C. State 76-66.

Dan Jennings led Long Beach State with 18 points, complimenting Samuels' work inside as Long Beach State came away with 36 points in the paint and nine second-chance points against the Wolfpack, as the 49ers looked to snap their current losing streak on the road.

Long Beach State (1-9) jumped out to an early lead against the Wolfpack, hitting Jennings for two early baskets inside for an 8-4 edge. NC State (6-2) recovered to pull even, but the teams would trade leads through most of the first half.

The 49ers were able to hit Jennings again for a 25-23 lead with 7:46 to play in the half, but Tyler Lewis answered for the Wolfpack, starting a 7-0 run for NC State that allowed the home team to push their lead to five points, the largest of the game to that point.

Leading by seven at halftime, NC State pushed out to a 42-33 lead on a basket from T.J. Warren, two of his game-high 23 points. The 49ers were able to counter, however, as Mike Caffey scored underneath and then finished a fast break following a steal from Dan Jennings.

Down seven again with 14:38 to play, Caffey earned an offensive putback, and McKay LaSalle hit a three the next trip down to cut the Wolfpack lead to two at 48-46 with 13 minutes to play. After an NC State basket at the other end, Long Beach State pulled to within one at 12:40 with an and-one basket from Caffey, who converted the three-point play for a 50-49 deficit.

The 49ers were within two as late as 11:49 in the second half after a tip-in from Jennings, but NC State pulled away with an 8-0 run that held the rest of the way in the ten-point loss.

Caffey finished with 16 points, 14 coming in the second half with six assists, while Jennings and Samuels combined for 33 points and 19 rebounds in 75 total minutes for the pair.

Long Beach State will get a small break from competition, returning to action on December 19 in the Walter Pyramid when the 49ers host USC at 7:30 p.m. That game will be carried live on Fox Sports Prime Ticket, and is also the start of a two-game homestand for the 49ers.
