Long Beach State baseball has released their 2013 schedule, which features a pair of tough road trips as well as a tremendous home slate as the Dirtbags prepare for another season.
The first week of the season kicks off with a bang for Long Beach State, as the Dirtbags will start the season on the road, traveling to Vanderbilt for a three-game series in Nashville, Tenn. beginning on Friday, Feb.15. The team will then return home and face defending national champions Arizona in a two-game midweek series on Feb. 19 and 20, with the 19th serving as the Dirtbags' home opener in Blair Field.
Long Beach State will play four non-conference series at home, beginning with Valparaiso on Friday, Feb. 22, and will also host Seattle while continuing two traditional rivalry series with Wichita State and Cal State Fullerton, as the Dirtbags and Titans will again play six times in 2013. Along with Vanderbilt, the Dirtbags will also travel to Tempe, Ariz., to face Arizona State in the team's other non-conference road series.
Other midweek games along with Arizona include home-and-home pairs with USC, UCLA, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, and 2014 incoming Big West member San Diego State.
The Big West schedule for Long Beach State begins on Thursday, March 28, when the Dirtbags host Cal State Northridge in the first of a three-game series at Blair Field. Other conference teams coming to Long Beach in 2012 include UC Davis, Cal Poly, UC Riverside, and the newest member of the Big West, Hawaii, who visits Blair Field for a three-game set beginning on Friday, May 10.
Long Beach State will finish the regular season on the road, closing out the Black & Blue Rivalry series at UC Irvine starting on Friday, May 24.
